M?s sobre el modio romano de Gonz?r.
Dec?amos al terminar el art?culo anterior, que contra la capacidad
se?alada al modio romano de diez litros y 210 cent?metros c?bic?s, se
nos ofrec?an dos dificultad?s. ?
La primera, es el modio de Florencia, que se cree tambi?n un
modio romano indudable, y a pesar de ello resulta su voluinen, como
hemos,visto, menor que el de nuestro modio (1). Lleva aquel 9250 c3,
es decir, nueve litros y cuartillo: lleva el nuestro, seg?n el c?lculo
9650 c3, esto es, nueve litros y 650 c3; m?s de nueve litros y medio.
Hay, pues, entre ellos, una diferencia de 400 c3, que se hace mucho
mayor si no atendemos al c?lculo, sin? a lo que arrroja la medida, la
cual, coma agranda el nuestro, agrandar?a tambi?n, quiz?, el de Flo
rencia. Es verdad que no podemos exigir a los constructores romanos
de pesas y medidas esa exactitud matem?tica, si es posible, quo. pedi
mos a los constructores de nuestros dias, ni ellos contaban para ello
con los elementos que tenemos nosotros, pero parece muy larga una
tolerancia de 400 c3, de casi medio litro, aunque no sea m?s, en una
medida que apenas llega: a diez.
Es cierto que en nuestra tierra la tiene mayor el ferrado con que
medimos los granos, y en Espafia es mayor la diferencia que existe
entre sus libras, pues tiene veinte onzas en Galicia y solo diez y seis
